I am satisfied with the machine once I purchased the monster flywheel from Sailrite to slow it down for more control. Right out of the box the machine sewed through thick layers of leather and vinyl with no problem but was a bit flighty hence the monster flywheel. The appearance of the machine is not great, stains, dings, dirty, bent and unattached dial. I contacted CS who apologized and offered extra needles and bobbins to passify me but I never received them. Overall I am happy with the machine and it is a great savings compared to the Sailrite or the Stitch Master at Tandy Leather which I was planning to purchase.

Worked pretty good out of box , Oiled it first and checked for any loose or broken parts before putting power to it, all was good and it runs a lot quieter than I thought it would . Pretty fast at the starts but if you bury the needle first using the hand wheel then it will start sewing at a more manageable speed . Did a little tweaking, ground the foot with a little more radius on the inside bottom edges so now it sews 5/32 piping without having to change foot. Size wise it is not any bigger than the singer heavy duty models but it is a lot heavier . Sewed through 8 layer of outdoor upholstery fabric and climbed over a 4 layer seam with out a problem. tough to beat a walking foot

Added the sailrite monster wheel and kept the clutch rather than the set screws , works good and a lot more manageable speed. I tried the sailrite ls1 stock foot with piping tunnel but it did not line up right , the outside foot mounted quite a bit lower than the stock one that came with machine and there center foot, the needle rubbed on one side

I've had my machine for about 1 month now and I really do love it. It has taken some getting used to after using domestic machines. Threading is fairly straightforward, but I did pull a video on YouTube to watch someone else thread it first. Adjusting the top thread tension was challenging for me. I had to keep moving the dial this way and that until I got it where I like it. The instructions booklet provided really didn't help much. On super thick layers, I sometimes need to manually encourage the hand wheel to start, but once it catches, it's off and running. The presser foot doesn't raise especially high, so when sewing those thick layers, it can be a little tricky getting them under the foot to start. You must also either pull very long tails on the needle or hold the thread with your fingers when starting or the thread will come out of the needle. My machine came with a few tools, a thread holder, and about 5 extra heavy duty needles. Make sure to get sewing machine oil and the tough thread too. Oil all metal parts before sewing. I housed my machine in a vintage drop table which is perfectly suited for it. All and all, it is a great semi industrial machine that seems like it can take on some pretty tough jobs.

Bought this because my Singer walking foot machine could not handle the vinyl material to reupholster my dining room chairs. I did not want to spend the money to buy an industrial machine so I chose the Rex based on the reviews. If you purchase this machine, it would be worth your time to read some of the previous reviews. As suggested by other buyers, I oiled it like crazy and bought the Monster Wheel from Sailrite to slow it down and give it more power. This machine is almost identical to the Sailrite Ultrafeed LS1. Adding the Monster Wheel made a huge difference and was worth the price. The walking foot on this machine did not raise up high enough to get 8 layers of vinyl under it, so I found a Sailrite video that explained very clearly how to adjust the presser foot height. I am no mechanic, but was able to get this machine set up for what I needed and was able to easily sew through 8 layers of vinyl. Sailrite has many videos that have been very informative. Although this is not a high quality machine, it is very capable of handling heavy material with a much smaller investment than most other industrial machines.

**Addendum**
I have changed my review from 4 stars to 3 stars based on 1 1/2 years experience with this machine. The internal parts of the Rex do not compare to a name brand machine. The cost of parts replacement, down time, and time spent fixing this machine has me wishing I had spent more money on a high quality machine. If my husband wasn't so good at fixing things, this Rex would have become a boat anchor long ago....

I've only had the machine for a couple days, but so far, I'm impressed. I've sewn four layers of heavy upholstery material and two layers of velvet. The upholstery material was so thick I had to stuff it under the presser feet. The velvet wanted to pucker slightly, but I haven't played wit the foot pressure yet.

After reading the existing reviews, the first thing I did was remove all the covers and oil anything I could find that might move, There are three cam followers and rather than just hit them with light oil, I smeared grease on the forks and the cams. I also took a few pieces of wood and made a platform the machine now sits on. That made it really steady and solid.

One thing that kept it from getting a 5 was the electrical wiring. It's not a deal-breaker and I don't think it is unsafe. It's just odd. The plug fits in a standard outlet … sort of … the prongs are straight and smooth, but one of the prong is slightly longer than the other. The plug is probably polarized, but it fits equally poorly no matter which direction you try to plug it in. It really doesn't fit tightly in an outlet and I'm concerned it will fall out, or worse overheat. The machine also doesn't have a power switch so you need to make sure that you unplug the machine if you are going to leave it unattended for any length of time. I don't find a UL approval on it anywhere and that also makes me wonder what's up with the electrics. Could this particular machine have been destined for some country other than the USA?? I'll probably replace the power cord, but I shouldn't have to.

I have not had a problem regulating the speed and am pleased with that. I like the location and orientation of the bobbin holder and the fact that the bobbins are a standard size. Overall, I think the machine is going to make a good addition to my shop and I'm looking forward to getting more accustomed to it. It is most definitely one solid machine!

OK, so I've had the machine for a couple weeks now and have been practicing (playing) with it. I can control the speed, but with difficulty, It doesn't want to start very smoothly or easily. It wants to bunch up light material, but I still haven't adjusted the presser foot pressure. That may help when/if I do need to make something using light weight material.

I decided to spring for the Monster II balance wheel. What a difference that makes! The machine starts easily and smoothly and runs slowly enough that I can sew as slowly as I need to. It fits perfectly and is well worth the money. If the machine came this way, It would have gotten 5 stars. It's a joy to use now and I can't wait to start my next project (a chiropractor's treatment table covered in heavy vinyl.) I already have some of the material I will be using and the machine goes through it like a hot knife through butter.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have limited sewing knowledge but I really like this machine
Reviewed in Canada on November 24, 2020
I do not sew well but I was raised properly so my brothers and I all learned to sew well enough to patch, etc. I was concerned with some of the reviews I had seen particularly in respect of speed control as I have some damage to my right leg. I had no problem going as fast or slow as I liked. Any problems I did have were related to my lack of ability re sewing in general and not the machine. Sewing around a tight radius, for example, and anticipating what the material would do.

i bought this machine and finally have a bit of time to start using it. I am very upset that the foot peddle is made of the cheapest possible plastic and broke before i even had a chance to thread my bobbin. im now trhing to put it back together with no hope of it ever staying together. this costed me too much to have it break in minutes.
